Warnings: None, unless you count a dead Petty Officer and his fiancée. ;-)
Summary: After watching the team work on the Renny Grant case, Gibbs feels it's time that McGee gets a shot at being a team leader, as well - and hopefully learn a couple of valuable lessons along the way.
Notes: There were a couple of things I really didn't like in season 6. One, Tony being portrayed as a completely incompetent idiot. Two, McGee acting like an arrogant douche bag. Three, the team not being a team. I especially didn't like the way McGee treated Tony in "Bounce." Right after watching that episode, I felt the need to somehow put things right again. When I finally sat down to write this story, season 7 had just started, and we got competent!Tony and great Tony/McGee banter and a general team feeling between Gibbs, Tony and McGee back. Boy, was I screwed! LOL! I love that we have all of that back, but I still decided that I wanted to explore what went wrong in season 6. So, rest assured that I honestly, truly, really, deeply adore McGee, and this story isn't meant to be McGee bashing. This is my attempt to right what I felt went wrong in season 6.
